Using Custom Portlets

• Custom Portlets:
  • Appear on the left with link to internal or external content
  • Can be defined at root or department level
  • Are contextual ... appear only at root or within department being viewed
• Where created:
  • In department sub-folder 'custom' or root sub-folder 'custom'
  • Create folder whose title will be portlet title
  • In the folder, create links whose titles will be linked text in portlet and whose target objects will be href targets in portlet
  • Multiple portlets allowed, but recommend local policy to limit in order to keep number of portlets down
• Where public sees:
  • When there are published links within a folder in the custom folder, a portlet will appear on the left side between Services and Resources (can be repositioned in the portal properties (left_slots definition) in the ZMI.
